Mindekirken Tuesday Open House: Mass for the Nameless

Join our dear friends at Mindekirken for their weekly lunch and lecture program, featuring Ellen Hofsø—author of nine popular fiction books providing glimpses into the lived experiences of the Sami in Scandinavia.

Her most recent book—Messe for de navnløse (A Mass for the Nameless)—was inspired by a mass held by Pastor Gunnar Kristiansen in 2004. Having taken place on a cemetery in Gildeskål, Norway, the mass was for all of the Sami who were buried in an unmarked mass grave. The presentation will be held in a style that is called bokbad (book bath) in Norway, where Ellen Hofsø and Pastor Gunnar will engage in a dialogue about her book.

The Oslo Chamber Choir - Dinner and a Concert

  • Mindekirken, the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Oslo Chamber Choir was founded in 1984 by Grete Pedersen with the ambition of being one of the absolute top choirs in Norway and an innovative voice in the international arena. Parallel to singing classical repertoire, the choir early started experimenting with Norwegian folk music, and through intensive work together with the best performers in this tradition, the Oslo Chamber Choir has acquired a unique expression by being the only choir where all the singers are profoundly trained in Norwegian folk music singing. During these thirty years of studying Norwegian singing, the choir also worked closely with selected composers who specialized in Norwegian folk music, developing a new way of using this music in a choral setting.
