Hygge Happy Hour and Nordic Music and Pop-up Dance with Kari Tauring and Art Bjorngjeld

This Thursday’s Hygge Happy Hour is the kick-off for our new series - Nordic Music and Pop-Up Dance hosted by Kari Tauring. Each third Thursday, nature instrument specialist and singer Kari Tauring hosts a variety of Nordic musicians who inspire dancing within the community. She kicks off this evening with a song for schottische!

The musician for our first event is Art Bjorngjeld. His music was passed down through Art's family and he shares it broadly throughout the Midwest and Scandinavia. You may have seen him on Prairie PBS when they visited the Norwegian dance group Det Norske Folkedanslaget in 2019. Art leads the dance band Button Boxers, favorites at Nordic Dance evenings at Tapestry Folkdance Center and the Nordic Ball.

Come sing, dance, or just pull up a chair and listen.

If you are interested in playing at a Nordic Music happy hour or have any questions, please email Kari at karitauring@gmail.com.

Hygge Happy Hour and Nordic Music and Pop-up Dance hosted by Kari Tauring with the Twin Cities Hardingfelelag

Kari Tauring and the Twin Cities Hardingfelelag! If you saw Prairie PBS story then you will know it was the Hardanger Fiddle, Norway's national instrument, that inspired the segment, Sympathetic Strings! If you were with us last month, you will know the Schottische song "Bringebær" - Kari will teach it again and then you can hear how it sounds on Hardingfele. How does it change your dance?

The Twin Cities Hardingfelelag is a group of five to eighteen players of the Hardanger fiddle, the national folk instrument of Norway. They play at Scandinavian dances and events such as The Nordic Ball, Syttende Mai Festival, Duluth-Stämman, Victoria Nordic Fest, and at the American Swedish Institute. They also play at weddings, church services and celebrations, retirement homes, and meetings of groups devoted to Scandinavian culture.

The group includes new and long-time players, dedicated amateurs and professional violin teachers. They are especially proud of their representation across generations, pre-teen to grandmother.

You are invited to sing, dance, or simply sit and listen.
